Where your dog can run free, when the lead goes on and where you can stay together.
On Texel your dog may run free on parts of the beach outside the high season, and in the De Dennen and Krimbos forests. From 1 March to 1 September dogs must be kept on a lead on part of the beach, and in the villages and on public roads and paths your dog must be on a lead all year round.
Below are the rules from the leaflet "Texel met je hond" by the municipality of Texel, Staatsbosbeheer, Natuurmonumenten, VVV Texel and Nationaal Park Duinen van Texel. The map in that leaflet shows, per beach pole, where the lead must go on.
Wherever your dog may run free, it must respond when called.
Always check the signs at the beach entrance: they take precedence.
The Ecomare seal sanctuary increasingly receives seals with dog bites, and seals bite dogs too. Put your dog on a lead when a seal is in sight and keep at least 30 metres away.
Dogs chasing sheep sometimes drive them into a ditch where they drown. So keep your dog away from sheep and put it on a lead in areas with many birds. Always pick up after your dog and put the bag in a bin.
At The Island Life your dog is welcome in the holiday homes: €10 per dog per night, a maximum of 2 per accommodation. Unfortunately not in the B&B rooms, and please do not leave your dog alone in the house or in a crate.
